Description: American Victorian stained glass window in the Aesthetic Movement taste. The influence of Japanese design, which followed American Commodore Perry’s mid-19th century expeditions to this previously closed nation, is easy to identify in this pattern of foliation silhouetted against a celestial form. Here we see a representation of multiple spherical forms which graduate in color from deep gold to nearly clear. This perhaps symbolizes the progressing of our sun across its appointed daily path toward the Western horizon, giving way to a lunar dominated sky. The colors, textures and faceted jewels all deliver. This is a vibrant snapshot of the cutting-edge modern art of 125 years ago! It still works.
